Bee Blocks

I'm finally getting caught up on my September/October commitments.  Who knew opening a new library building would be so exhausting!

For September's Scrapbeelicious bee, Gwendellyn @ therainbowrevolts asked for "themed" scrappy trip blocks

The theme for this one is scraps that were on my table... they just happened to be coordinating from Cuzco and Glimma

Rainbow DS prints -- a mix of Chicopee, FMF, Florence and Croquette

For the Grace circle of do.Good.Stitches, Irelle asked for a modern solids block (November BOM from Sew Mama Sew). 

These blocks took me about an hour and 15 min each, but I cut every piece right before I sewed it since each component had different measurements.  I think it would be easier to do an entire quilt using this pattern and bulk cut the pieces.  I used Kona Medium gray for my neutral then a mix of solids I had laying around from my meager stash of solids.

Finally for Newbee Quilters over at Threadbias libellenart asked for a Converging Corners block in black, red and gold for a quit for her son.  I don't have a lot of "masculine" prints in my stash, so the pickings were pretty slim.  I had to keep asking Ryan if it was boy-ish enough :)

And for October, emptysea asked for a rainbow patchwork wheel block.  I had some fun with fussy-cutting on this one :)

The only blocks I still need to to do be all caught up are the October Scrapbeelicous blocks.  I am a little intimidated by this one because Cathy (@wombatquilts) wants a low volume paper-pieced block (maybe 2 if we're feeling up to it).  I haven't done paper piecing yet, but we've gotten to the introductory posts in the paper piecing portion of the Penny Sampler class.  So hopefully I'll have more confidence in the coming weeks once I get caught up! :)  Thanks for stopping by!

TGIFF: bee blocks

I had every intention to participate in SarahQuilts "Show me Yours" stash link up, but holy cow, my life has exploded lately!  In personal news:  We have an official date for our move to our new Library building.  Things at work are in a complete tumult right now and it's really busy.  It's also unlikely that I'm going to be able to take any time off work for the next 3 months or so.

I'm really glad I finished all my August bee blocks early this month, because of how hectic things have been.

My first, and the bee I've been a member of the longest is the Newbee Quilters bee on Threadbias.  This month, our queen asked for rainbow Charming Stars blocks.  I love that this tutorial takes charm squares, because I have a HUGE pile of charms from different swaps.  I grabbed a rainbow of charms and this is what I came up with

 The blocks that others in the hive have posted have all been super cute.  I really need to make a rainbow quilt...

Next up are my do.Good.Stitches Grace Circle blocks.  Jenny wanted 12.5" Star Crossed blocks that feature pink, purple, or fuchsia.

This quilt is going to be so much fun, I can't wait to see it come together.  Last month's quilter just posted a picture of the Asterisk Flying Geese layout of our blocks from July, and it looks fabulous :)  I feel so lucky to be part of such a great group!

Last, but certainly not least, I am so thrilled to be part of another bee that formed out of the New Blogger's Blog Hop -- the Scrap-Bee-Licious bee.  If you couldn't tell from the bee name, the purpose is to choose a block that is scrap friendly.  These ladies are so talented and I can't wait to have a quilt from this group.  Our inaugural queen is Ashley from Wasn't Quilt in a Day and she requested Converging Corners blocks with white center squares.  This quilt is so cool, I don't know how I hadn't seen these before!

 Ashley and I share a Denyse Schmidt fetish, so I knew I had to include some DS fabrics in her blocks :)

WIP Wednesday: Bee Blocks

At the end of May I got an invitation from Rachel at Stitched in Color to join the Grace Circle of do.Good.Stitches.  I was really excited to be asked to take part in such a special project.  Quilts made in the Grace circle benefit My Very Own Blanket.  Unfortunately the circle decided to take a break from making a June quilt so I've been waiting impatiently to get started.

Our block for July is called Asterisk Flying Geese.  I've been slowly working on the blocks over the past week, and have had to spend a lot of quality time with my seam ripper trying to get everything on point.

I had a lovely stack of HST's but I'm terrible at taking in-process pictures!  They are made almost entirely of scraps, except for the neutrals which I had to cut from my stash.

I ended up finishing them right before bed last night.  I love the scrappy colorful-ness of the blocks and I think they are going to look fabulous all stitched together :)

I'm so excited for a day off tomorrow, hopefully I can get more xplus blocks sewn up now that my bee blocks for July are finished :)  What are you working on this week?
